THEY BAGGED MANURE, wheelbarrowed it down to the stall, and Tammy began working her magic on the customers again. Even so, there seemed to be fewer people stopping than usual. In fact the numbers were definitely down on last week, which in turn had been a bit down on their first glorious week.

Randy had also begun to notice that a few of their previous customers drove by at the same time each day. Of course they all gave a toot and a wave, but they were not stopping for any more manure. Then a terrible thought struck him.

"We've got to keep selling!" he suddenly said to Tammy, his voice coming out more panic-stricken than he intended. "We need more. More!"

"Yes, well," shrugged Tammy, "we can only sell it if people want to buy it, and we can't do anything about that. "

"Yes we can. Yes we can! You know, a special - 'Buy two, get one free!'”

"It's a bit late for that," said Tammy resignedly.

"No it's not, no it's not!" insisted Randy, looking around desperately. "Let's do the sign right now." All he had was the corkboard backing on Beau's poster. Quickly he repinned the poster to the inside of the stall, then laid the white square on the ground. Now, what did he have to write with?

"Randy!" cried Tammy as he opened the nearest sack and scooped out a nice wet splodge. "Don't be gross!" She grabbed his wrist and shook the oozy blob from his fingers.

It fell onto her shoe.

"Oh hell," he said. "Sorry about that." He dived down and began brushing it off with his other hand. This brought him terribly close to her knees. He took a quick peek at them. She had lovely knees, just like her elbows except of course they were knees but equally nice, sort of smooth and rounded, with fine little hairs all over them . . .

"Randy, what are you doing?" asked Tammy after a while.

"Eh? Oh!" He started brushing again.

"It's all right," she said. "Don't worry about it."

"Uh, okay." He stood up.

"You all right?" she asked.

Now he was looking at her lips, which were almost at his eye-level. He had never noticed before how her two crooked front teeth sort of pushed her lips out towards him, and how very red they were.

"Randy?"

She seemed to say it differently this time, sort of huskily, as if her voice was covered in fur. Out of the bottom edge of his eye he noticed her hands fluttering nervously in the space between them, so after wiping his own hands hastily on the back of his shorts he caught at them. It was a good catch. Her hands were very warm, and slightly damp, and very, very soft.

They looked into each other's eyes, then little by little they drew each other closer, until their lips met.

"Ooo! You've got lipstick on!" he said, suddenly pulling back to look at her whole face.

"Yes," she replied. Her furry voice had now grown a tail and was rubbing itself on the side of his face.
